| Apache is the most popular server software for Web servers, running between 40 and 50 percent of all public and private Web servers. Apache is freeware that runs primarily on Linux (there is also a version ported to Windows), providing rock-solid Web serving on inexpensive hardware at zero software cost. The forthcoming update to Apache, version 2.0, will have several new enhancements, including a new Apache portable run-time, new multi-processing modules, and I/O filtering. These new features should make Apache even more appealing corporations considering an open source solution. |
